Modern Family Home in Laren

The ultimate challenge for an architect is to design a home which pleases the client to no end and still fits within the possibilities of the prevailing building regulations. The chosen location came with a few considerable limitations. Initially, there was a modest single-storey home of 500 m3 at that location. A maximum ridge height of six metres, which could be raised to seven, was the limit for that parcel. People who decide to build their own homes generally want a home of comfortable, generous proportions. The client wanted a modern home with clean lines which also projected an air of friendliness. The latter was achieved by giving the home a thatched roof. In addition, the clients chose luxurious materials and the design had to take the magnificent view from the back of the home into account. The open-plan kitchen/dining room as well as the living room were thus situated at the back of the residence. A swimming pool with home gym and sauna, wine cellar with bar and even a golf simulator were situated on the lower ground floor. The home fits its owners to a tee and that was one of the most important aspects of this project for them.
